Multiple sclerosis, often abbreviated as MS, is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord.
In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, called myelin. This causes damage to the myelin, and disrupts the communication between the brain and the rest of the body.
Symptoms of MS can vary widely depending on which part of the central nervous system is affected, but they often include problems with vision, muscle weakness and stiffness, difficulty with coordination and balance, and cognitive impairment.
MS is a chronic disease, meaning that it persists over time, and it can have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life. While there is no cure for MS, there are treatments available that can help manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.
My diagnosis for this autoimmune disease came in the fall of 2021 after relapse on top of relapse. Currently, I have a total of 35 lesions across my brain and spinal cord. There are many who are much worse and many who are far better. If you’ve one person with MS, then you’ve met one person with MS. This disease is highly unpredictable and a total game-changer. Keep fighting MS warriors!
